League-Age

Little League age is how AALL determines a players playing age for the Fall and Spring season.  See the League Age Calculator to determine what level of play your child is eligible to play.  Your child's "league age" is determined based on their age as of August 31 for baseball and December 31 for softball. In other words, for the Spring 2026 season, if your child was born on August 30, 2015, for purposes of baseball and softball they would be considered league age 11, even though at the time of the season they will only be 10.  If your child was born on September 14, 2015, they would be league age 10 for baseball and league age 10 for softball.

Division Placement

As a reminder, during registration, your child is initially placed in a division based on age. For players ages 7–12, the league conducts league-wide assessments to help place each player in the division that best matches their current level of experience, comfort, and overall development. Assessments are also used to help evenly distribute players across teams, promoting parity and a fun, competitive season for everyone. Once assessments are completed, you can expect to hear from the League promptly regarding your child’s final placement.

Tee-Ball Division (League Ages 4-5)

For generations of Little Leaguers, their first steps between the lines came in Tee Ball. The same is true of the parents and volunteers who are new to the Little League program. The Little League Tee Ball curriculum focuses on providing a fast-paced, fun and athletic experience while teaching the fundamentals of the game.

Tee-Ball utilizes an adjustable batting tee for hitting. The program is based on Little League International's core curriculum that features structured learning, highlighted by two sessions per week combining practice and game play. Over the course of the season, coaches and parents will engage in a series of lessons utilizing up to 40 activities that include skills, drills, and plenty of physical activity.

All players are provided with a team shirt and hat.

All activities are at either Davidsonville Elementary School or the Davidsonville Family Recreation Center.  Tee Ball is played on Tuesday and Thursday evenings, from 6:00 pm – 7:00 pm starting in late March/early April and running through early June.

Coach Pitch Division (League Ages 5-6)

The Little League Coach Pitch program works to build on the foundational skills learned in Tee Ball. Providing a fast-paced, fun, and athletic experience while teaching the fundamentals of the game will always be the priority. Within the Coach Pitch curriculum, however, we will begin to teach our athletes how to hit a ball in-flight, while incorporating “outs” on the base path midway through the season. It is intended for players ages 5 to 6 years old who are ready to hit a moving ball. Little League rules are modified for the youngsters to promote skill development. Coaches are allowed in the field and pitch to their own teams. We do not keep a strike count at this level and kids are given as many as 6 pitches to hit. The Coach Pitch season generally consists of two sessions per week combining practice and game play.

All players are provided with a team shirt and hat.

All activities are at either Davidsonville Elementary School or the Davidsonville Family Recreation Center. Coach Pitch is played on Monday and Wednesday evenings, from 6:00 pm – 7:00 pm starting in late March/early April and running through early June.

Girls Softball (played through AA County Softball League)

Tee-Ball Division (League Ages 4-6) - Softball

Our 6U Softball program is designed to be safe, fun, and development-focused. Safety is our top priority, which is why we use a 10-inch Incrediball - a softer version of a traditional softball.

Teams are intentionally kept small, with approximately 8 players per team. This ensures 100% playing time for every child, minimizes standing around, and allows for more individual instruction from coaches. Smaller teams also mean more at-bats each game - often the highlight for players at this age.

The coach pitches to the batter, and if the ball is not put into play, it is placed on a tee. This approach keeps games moving, builds confidence, and provides a more engaging experience than traditional T-ball.

The focus at the 6U level is on learning fundamentals, having fun, and building a love for the game. Games are not scored, and there are no win-loss records - every player is encouraged and celebrated.

For the Spring season, families will hear from their coach in late March, with league play typically running through the second week of June.

All players are provided with a team jersey and hat/visor.

Girls Softball (played through AA County Softball League)

Coach Pitch (League Ages 6-8) - Softball

Our 8U Softball program builds on the foundation established at the 6U level and begins the transition from on-field coach assistance to player-only game play. Safety remains a top priority, and an 11-inch Incrediball - a softer version of a traditional softball - is used.

Teams are kept intentionally small to ensure 100% playing time for every player, minimize time spent standing or sitting, and allow for more individual coaching. Instruction continues to focus on core fundamentals, including catching, throwing, batting, and base running.

Games use a modified kid-pitch/coach-pitch format. Kid pitch is gradually introduced over the course of the season, with a maximum of two innings per game. There are no walks and no tees, and players can strike out. Base stealing is not permitted at this level.

As players progress, there is an increased emphasis on defensive play, including making force outs, catching fly balls, and throwing to first base. In-house pitcher and catcher clinics are available for players and parents to help introduce proper mechanics and set athletes up for long-term success.

Games are not scored, and team win/loss records are not kept. The primary focus remains on player development, confidence, and enjoyment of the game.

All players are provided with a team jersey and hat/visor.
